Board

Blue has a beautiful full-featured kanban board view to support process-based work.

The Board is the default view in Blue, providing a flexible kanban-style project board. Lists represent different stages or steps in a process, enabling users to map out workflows visually.

The Board View is commonly used for:

  • Project management — Mapping out project stages from backlog to completion
  • Sales pipelines — Tracking deal stages from lead to closed
  • Hiring processes — Visualizing applicant stages from sourced to hired

Lists as Process Steps

Lists on the board represent major steps in a process. Typical configurations involve stages progressing left to right, from early to late stages. List names clearly indicate the specific stage.

Records can be dragged between lists to advance them through different process steps.

Record Cards

Record cards display key details at a glance, including title, assignee(s), due date, tags, cover image, checklist progress, comment count, time tracking, and custom fields. Cards can be dragged to reorder them within a list.

Users can quickly create records by clicking “+ Add Record” at the top or bottom of any list.

You can also create multiple records simultaneously by copying and pasting a list of bullet points or a column of cells from Excel or Google Sheets.

Users can right-click on a record card to access additional options:

  • Open in New Tab - Opens the full record details in a new browser tab
  • Rename - Edits the record name
  • Mark as Complete - Marks the record status as complete (or incomplete)
  • Due Date - Sets or changes the record’s due date
  • Assign - Assigns the record to one or more users, or assign by role
  • Tag - Adds or removes tags, or create a new tag inline
  • Move - Moves the record to a different workspace
  • Set Colour - Changes the record card’s background color
  • Copy - Duplicates the record
  • Copy URL - Copies a link to the record
  • Move to Top - Moves the record to the top of its list
  • Pin to top - Pins the record so it stays at the top of its column, above unpinned cards
  • Delete - Deletes the record

When multiple cards are selected, the context menu adapts to support bulk operations such as assigning, tagging, marking complete, setting color, and deleting across all selected records at once.

Board 2

Right-clicking on record cards provides quick access to management options, enabling users to modify records directly from the Board View.

Bulk Actions

Lists offer bulk actions like tagging all records, assigning records, marking complete/incomplete, or moving records between lists. This enables managing groups of records efficiently. See our dedicated page on lists for more information

Multi-Select and Drag

Hold (Mac) or Ctrl (Windows / Linux) and click cards to select multiple at once, or hold to select a range. Selected cards can be dragged together to a different list or position — perfect for moving a batch of work through a stage in one motion. The right-click context menu also adapts to the selection so you can bulk-tag, assign, or complete in one action.

Grouping

The Board can group records by something other than list. Use the Group by control in the toolbar to switch — group by assignee, tag, due date, or any select / date / lookup field. The board re-lays out instantly so each group is a column.

  • Lookup field grouping — group by a value pulled from a linked record (e.g. group tasks by the Customer’s tier).
  • Custom date grouping — for date fields, choose grouping granularity (day, week, month, quarter) and how far back / forward to display.

Sorting

Pick a sort dimension from the Sort control to order cards within each column — by due date, created date, manual order, a number field, an assignee, and so on. Direction is configurable per sort.

Pinning Cards

Right-click a card and choose Pin to top to keep it at the top of its column. Pinned cards float above unpinned ones in every grouping — list, status, assignee, tag, due date, or custom field — and are ordered among themselves by their position in the column.

  • Select multiple cards first to pin or unpin them all at once from the context menu.
  • A pin badge appears in the corner of every pinned card; click it to unpin instantly. You can also right-click and choose Unpin.

Card Display

Tune what shows on each card from the board’s view settings:

  • Compact Cards — switch to a denser layout that hides covers and trims metadata, fitting more cards per screen.
  • Fields on Front — pin specific custom fields to the front of the card so the most relevant data is visible without opening the record.
  • Cover images — show or hide cover images at the top of every card.
  • Clickable contact fields — phone, email, and URL fields on the front of the card are clickable, so you can call, email, or open a link without opening the record.

Drag-to-Update Field Values

When the board is grouped by a custom field, dragging a card between columns updates that field’s value on the record automatically. Move a card from High to Low on a Priority-grouped board and the Priority field updates on the underlying record — no need to open it.

Filters

Filters allow focusing on subsets of records based on criteria like assignee, tag, due date, etc. Filters apply only to visible record cards, not the entire lists. See our dedicated page on filters for more information
